The history of Pop music

What is a music video? : Internet research

A modern day music video is used as a marketing device that promotes the sale of music recordings. Although the origins of music videos go back much further they came into their own in the 1980s. This was when MTV based their format around the medium and they then later on launched VH1.
The term "music video" first become popular in the early 1980s. They were labeled in various terms including "filmed insert", "Promotional (promo film)", "Promotional (promo) clip"or "film clip".

My own knowledge:
A music video is a way for the audience to visualise the song they like and also visualise the artist or artists who perform the song. Its a good way to make an appealing record to a wider audience and to promote their product so many people will become aware of it. Music videos have changed a lot over the years and things such as mise en scene plays a big part on how we view big named starts today for example Lady GaGa, everybody watches her videos to see what crazy theme she includes and what crazy costume she wears.

Brief & Introduction

For my A2 Media Studies coursework I am to produce a pop music video. This is completely different to our task before hand which was to produce a thriller. I will learn new skills and the challenge will be harder. I will have to research the history of music videos and look into different types of music videos and what makes them so good as well as looking at key features to music videos like lip syncing for example. My music video is to last around 3 and half minutes.
